Who We Are
Black Hive Honey surfaced in 2015 : a one-woman venture, designing and producing sturdy hand-dyed / hand-stitched leather goods - bags/belts/harnesses, leather/metal/stone jewelry and all things bees : honey, wax candles, natural food wraps, soaps and body creams made with all natural ingredients foraged and gathered by hand on the prairies & boreal forests of Manitoba.
A sequel to the first venture, Arbutus clothing (2008-2015 : upcycled anti-fashion wear), Black Hive Honey evolved when Jaclyn began studying bees, acquiring land-share as one of the founding members of the Myriad cooperative ecovillage near Teulon Manitoba.
A mama to two teenagers, devoted naturalist Jaclyn walks in the tradition of her grandmothers, who were amongst many things, homesteaders & seamstresses.
What sets Black Hive Honey apart from many apiaries is that our hives are situated on an off grid eco-village, situated at the intersection of forest, prairie and wetland. The village members work together at cultivating the land by using sustainable practices such as; regenerative agriculture, biodynamics, and permaculture design practices with the intent to increase native biodiversity and support ecological restoration
When you purchase from Black Hive Honey this is what you are supporting; The product you are getting is ethical & sustainable.
